South Shore YMCA New Employee Orientation
(Volunteer and Re-cert below)

Part I: New Employee Orientation

  1. Welcome: Must read message in bottom right corner, then click “Continue” button. After clicking continue, audio will begin playing. Must listen to all audio, and then next will become enabled.

  2. CEO Intro: Must watch the video that auto-plays. Then, next will become enabled.

  3. Y Mission: Must listen to all audio and watch animations on-screen. After the audio and animations are complete, they can click next to continue (as indicated by the pop-up.)

  4. Y Voice: Must listen to all audio and watch animations on-screen, then next will become enabled.

  5. Core Values: Must click on each of the images at right side of screen (4 total) before next is enabled. After each is clicked and the audio is completed for each item, a checkmark will appear on the image. When all four images have been clicked, and all audio is complete, next will become enabled.

  6. Timeline: User must click each of the orange circles on the red bar at the left of the page. There are 8 total, and must listen to all audio for each. As each is completed, a white checkmark will appear on the orange circle for that year/event. Once all 8 checkmarks are showing, next will become enabled.

  7. Branches: This page they must click each of the branches to the right—7 of them. They must listen to all audio to receive a checkmark for that branch (white checkmarks; appear on left side of branch buttons). To close each branch popup, they can click another branch or click the X button at the top right of each popup. After all the checkmarks appear, next will become enabled. The button at the bottom launches a PDF with more details about programs offered at each branch. This button is not required to complete the page.

  8. Staff Promise: After the introductory audio, the letters “C A U S E” will appear on the screen to the left. The user must click on each of these, and listen to the audio associated with each before being able to continue. When audio is complete for a letter, the letter itself will change color from purple to blue. When all letters are blue, next will become enabled.

  9. Inclusion: This page is split up into 3 sections.

    1. Section 1 - A few images appear and some audio plays. After the audio has finished, the page will automatically move to the next section.

    2. Section 2 - There are 4 yellow boxes. After the intro audio, the user must click these and listen to them, in order. After all 4 have been revealed, a button will appear that they must click to move on to section 3.

    3. Section 3 - Just like section 1, the user must listen to audio and then may move on.

  10. Harassment Policy: This section has 5 subsections. Learner must click the tabs at the bottom right of the shape on screen to move between sub-sections.

    1. Intro - Must listen to intro audio. Then, learner must click the tab on the bottom right of the red shape on screen. Once they click the tab, they will be shown the definition of harassment.

    2. Definition of Harassment - definition and 4 buttons will appear (Physical, Verbal, Written, and Sexual). They must click through each of these different types of harassment. Once they click all 4 buttons (each type of harassement), the orange tab on the bottom right of the red shape will be clickable. They must click the orange tab to continue.

    3. Reporting a Claim - Must listen to audio and read text on screen, then click the yellow-orange tab at bottom right of shape to move on.

    4. Confidentiality - Must listen to audio and read text on screen, then click the yellow tab at bottom right of shape.

    5. Corrective Action - Must listen to audio, then next will become enabled.

  11. Employee Handbook: After the intro audio, each of the tabs of the handbook (on right side of screen; 13 total tabs) will become enabled. They must listen to all audio to complete each tab. A white checkmark will appear on each completed tab. Next will become enabled after all tabs are complete, and all checkmarks are showing. Tab 8 has additional requirements for completion:

    1. Tab 8, Employee Grievance Procedure - User must click the orange button in the middle of the screen to bring up a box with 3 more buttons. After listening to all audio, and clicking through each of the three steps, this section will be marked as complete.

  12. Retirement: This page is about the 403(b) SMART Accounts offered to YMCA employees. There is an intro pop-up as well as audio. After it has finished, the pop-up will disappear and a video will begin to play. After the video is complete, next will become enabled.

  13. Development: Must listen to intro audio, then a video will appear. After that video has finished, a small section with 3 tabs on a box will appear. Each tab must be clicked. After clicking each tab and listening to the audio, a checkmark will appear at the top right of each tab to indicate completion. When all checkmarks are showing and all audio is complete, next will become enabled.

  14. Employee Intranet: Must listen to audio narration in its entirety before next is enabled.

  15. Next Steps: Listen to audio and complete the on-screen instructions to start Part 2.



Part II: Child Protection

  1. Welcome Screen: User automatically advances to next slide after clicking “Continue” from intro message in bottom right corner. Or if returning to the course, user can either click “Continue From Where I Left” or “Start Over.”

  2. Intro Video: Must watch video before next is enabled; user is automatically advanced once video is complete.

  3. Welcome: Must listen to audio, then next will become enabled.

  4. Section 1 Intro: Must listen to audio, then next will become enabled.

  5. Stats: Must listen to audio, then automatically moved to the next slide.

  6. Types of Abuse: Must click the six types of abuse on screen (Neglect, Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Emotional Abuse, Medical Neglect, and Other/Unknown). Can click either the pie chart or the legend at top right to open the information. Each type of abuse has 2 sections. An explanation/definition section, and a signs and symptoms section. The explanation/definition is shown first. Must listen to the audio, then a button will appear to “View Signs & Symptoms” for each type of abuse. (NOTE: Medical Neglect and Other/Unknown do not have a signs and symptoms page.) Upon clicking the button, a list of signs and symptoms for each type of abuse will appear. Must listen to all audio, then two buttons will appear that say “Back to Definition” and “Back to Types of Abuse.” If you want to repeat the definition, click “Back to Definition.” However, in most cases, you will click “Back to Types of Abuse” to return to the pie chart and select the other types of abuse.

    After each type is complete, a white checkmark will appear next to that type of abuse in the legend at top right of the screen with the pie chart.

    Then, once all checkmarks are showing, a purple button will appear leading to the Child Sexual Exploitation section, where you must listen to audio. After audio, a button will appear which you must click and listen to audio about Child Exploitation Red Flags. Finally, in the Red Flags pop-up, once audio is complete, a button will appear to move to a drag and drop activity.

    In the drag/drop activity, first listen to audio instructions. Then, click the Begin button and complete the drag and drop activity. Once you’ve dragged all items from the word bank, feedback will appear. If you miss any, you must click one more button to view the correct responses. Once all the correct responses are showing, more feedback will appear in the orange box to the left of the screen, which must be read. There is a button to download a PDF with more information. Then, the next button will become enabled.

  7. Family Characteristics: Must click each of the 9 pictures, and read the popup information that appears. To exit each of the popups, click the X button at right of the popup. Green checkmarks will appear on pictures that have been clicked, and once all checkmarks are showing, next will become enabled.

  8. Strategies of Child Abusers: Must listen to each of the four strategies scenarios/explanations before next is enabled.

  9. Child on Child Abuse: Must answer T/F at beginning, then click the 7 buttons that appear before next is enabled. Checkmarks appear on buttons that have been clicked.

  10. Bullying Prevention: After some intro audio, a box with 8 buttons will appear. The user must visit each of these sections, and listen to all audio within each, before next will become enabled.

  11. Section 2 Intro: Must listen to audio before next is enabled.

  12. Program and Staffing Issues: Must watch video at beginning, then click each of the 6 buttons before next is enabled. Checkmarks appear in the top left corners of buttons once they’re clicked.

  13. Appropriate Touching Part 1: Must read scenario. As scenario progresses, buttons must be pressed to continue scenario. When scenario/audio is complete, “Done” button appears. User can click “Done” or next button to move forward.

  14. Appropriate Touching Part 2: Must click through all three examples (Sitting on Your Lap, Holding Hands, Buttoning Pants) before next is enabled. “Sitting on Your Lap” section has a video that must be watched. A question pops up during video, as well, that must be answered. As each of the three examples is completed, a pink/purple checkmark will appear on the top left corner of each example’s image.

  15. Showing Affection: All five guidelines must be clicked, and all information within each guideline must be listened to, before next is enabled. For Guidelines 1 and 3, there is a quick drag and drop activity that must be completed as well. Checkmarks appear on completed guidelines’ buttons.

  16. Code of Conduct: This section serves as a review of the topics covered in the Code of Conduct, signed prior to taking this training. Click any items that you’d like to review, but none are required. Click next when you’re ready to continue.

  17. Section 3 Intro: Must listen to audio before next is enabled.

  18. How to Respond: Must watch video. During video, suggestions will appear for the user to read. Users must manually continue video by clicking buttons that prompt them to do so. Once video is complete, next will be enabled.

  19. How to Respond - VIDEO: This page just has a YouTube video. The user must watch it and after 2 minutes, 20 seconds, next will become enabled. Next will become enabled regardless after 2:20 due to that fact that Smartbuilder can’t react with YouTube videos in this way.

  20. Common Ways Kids Disclose: Must click three most common ways and listen to scenarios before next is enabled. The three ways are: Indirect Hints, Disguised Disclosure, and Disclosure with Strings Attached). Blue checkmarks appear on completed sections when user returns to main screen following each scenario.

  21. Making the Report: Must listen to intro audio, then click each of the 7 “steps” buttons that appear (buttons are circles, like on timeline). Checkmarks will appear on step circles once they are complete.

  22. Reporting a Co-Worker: Must listen to intro audio, then click each of the 6 steps before next is enabled.

  23. Final Thoughts: Must listen to audio, then read the items on screen. Next will be enabled when audio is complete.

  24. Quiz: This is a 15 question quiz. They have to get the answer correctly before being able to move on to the next. After all are complete they can move onto the next steps to complete the course.

  25. Next Steps: Listen to audio and complete the on-screen instructions to start Part 3.

 

Part III: Employee Safety

  1. Welcome: After the intro audio they can move on.

  2. Accidents and Injuries: Intro audio needs to be listened to. They must click and read through the 4 buttons on screen. There is audio for each of these. After they have listened to all 4, they are free to move onto the next page

  3. Bloodborne Pathogens: Must listen to intro audio. Then, must click the 4 buttons to the left to complete 4 sections. Once all four sections are completed, and all four have checkmarks on them, next will become enabled. The four sections are:

    1. Bloodborne Pathogens Definition - Must listen to audio to receive checkmark and complete this section

    2. Hepatitis B Vaccination - Must listen to audio to receive checkmark and complete this section. There is also a button on this page to receive more information, if desired, which downloads a PDF.

    3. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - Must listen to audio to receive checkmark and complete this section

    4. If Exposed - Must listen to intro audio, then click the four numbered steps shown on screen. Once audio is complete, and all four buttons have been clicked, next will become enabled.

  4. BBP Quiz: 9-question quiz. Correct responses are not required. Feedback is provided for each wrong answer. At the end, next will become enabled.

  5. Hazard Communication and SDS: Must listen to intro audio. There are 5 buttons to the left that each have a section that is required. When each is completed, a checkmark will appear on the button for that section. Once all checkmarks are showing, next will become enabled. The five sections are:

    1. SDS Contains - Must listen to audio, then each of the 3 buttons needs to be clicked to reveal the steps. When audio is complete, and all steps have been clicked, the checkmark will appear for this section.

    2. Consult SDS - Must listen to audio to receive checkmark and complete this section

    3. Reading the SDS - This section just must be opened. Completing this section is not required.

    4. Chem Labels - There are 9 buttons that need to be clicked and read for checkmark to appear.

    5. Other Important Points - Audio just needs to be listened to.

  6. Hazard Communications Quiz: 10-question quiz. Correct responses are not required. Feedback is provided for each wrong answer. At the end, next will become enabled.

  7. Signature Page: They are required to fill out the Signature page form, then can click next to move on. Signature pages are sent to the Training Coordinator at the South Shore YMCA (used to be Maria Gore; haven’t received her replacement contact yet.)

  8. Next Steps: Starts with some audio (final thoughts), then listen to the audio and complete the on-screen instructions to complete NEO. Employees in School Age Child Care or the Afterschool Program are required to click the button on the screen to print their certificate. This certificate is required to be handed into supervisor for their NEO to be considered complete.



South Shore YMCA Re-certification:

South Shore YMCA employees who are required to do re-certification are told internally (by the South Shore YMCA) which courses they need to take for re-certification. However, both courses are added to each employee’s account upon registration as a re-cert. The two courses are:

  • Child Protection & Reporting Re-certification - SSYMCA (1 hour)

  • Employee Safety Re-certification - SSYMCA (30 min)

The New Employee Orientation is also added as an option for re-certification, but is not required.


IMPORTANT NOTE: The steps and pages will be the same as the New Employee Orientation courses, except EACH of the re-certification courses has its own signature page before the Next Steps page, called Signature Page. Completed signature forms are sent to the Training Coordinator at the South Shore YMCA (no contact yet). School Age Child Care and Afterschool Program employees MUST print a certificate of completion and hand it in to their supervisors.


South Shore YMCA Volunteers:

South Shore YMCA Volunteers are given 3 courses in the Volunteer Training collection:

  • Part I: Child Protection & Reporting for Volunteers - SSYMCA (1 hour)

  • Part II: Employee Safety for Volunteers - SSYMCA (30 min)

  • South Shore New Employee Orientation - Optional for Volunteers


IMPORTANT NOTE: Volunteers are required to take Parts I and II, but there is no signature page, e-mail, or certificate for volunteers. They are not required to take the optional New Employee Orientation.


The steps and pages will be the same as the New Employee Orientation courses, except none will have signature pages.
