Types of Abuse

After some introductory audio, the pie chart will become clickable. There are 5 types of abuse that must be visited to view further information. Each other section (Neglect, Physical Abuse, Sexual Abuse, and Emotional Abuse, Other Abuse) has a popup that appears, with required audio. Once the audio is complete, a button will appear to close the popup and return to the types of abuse pie chart. After you close the popup, a checkmark will appear at top right (where types of abuse are listed) to mark completion for that type of abuse. When all 5 types of abuse are complete, and all 5 checkmarks are shown, next will become enabled.

Indicators Activity

After the introductory audio, a “begin” button will appear. Click this button to start the activity. There is a word bank on the left side of the page, made up of indicators that a child may be in an abusive situation. To the right and bottom of the page, there are 5 boxes, one to represent each type of abuse, and a fifth box to represent indicators that are common for all types of abuse. Each indicator on the left must be dragged into its appropriate box. If the phrase is dropped incorrectly, an “x” will appear meaning that the box is incorrect and must be re-placed into a different box. After all have been dropped correctly, feedback will appear. Listen to this feedback, then you may click the next button to move on.

Family Characteristics of Abused Children

There are 10 polaroid pictures on this page. After the intro audio is complete, click each polaroid to open up additional information about the characteristics of families of abused children. From each popup, click the “x” in the right hand corner to exit. After an image is viewed, the polaroid picture on the page will turn grey. After all images have changed to grey, next will become enabled.

Profiles of Child Abusers

After some introductory audio, a begin button will appear in the bottom right corner. Clicking this will begin the activity. Statements will appear in the box at the bottom of the page. Read them, and select whether each statement is true for “women” (female abusers), “both”, or “men” (male abusers). There are 10 statements total. After all have been completed, a popup will appear with some information that needs to be read. Then, next will become enabled.

Strategies Used by Child Abusers

There are four sections on this page, representing four common strategies used by child abusers (Trickery, Seduction, Physical Force, Psychological Force). Each has an audio explanation that is required. Once each is complete, you will return to the main menu to select another common strategy. When all four strategies are complete, next will become enabled.

Understanding Normal Sexual Behaviors in Children

After some introductory audio completes, each of the 4 sections will become enabled. Each must be visited and the activity completed. The activity consists of selecting statements that are believed to be normal sexual behaviors for that age range. After selecting as many as believed to be normal, the “How’d I Do?” button must be clicked to provide feedback. After a section is completed, a checkmark will appear for that section. After all 4 sections have received checkmarks, next will become enabled.
