Discussions allow people in your site to communicate with one another.

Create New Discussion Topic

To create a new discussion, go to the Discussions page and click on Create New Topic. This is only available for sites where anyone can create new discussion topics.

You have the ability to enter a title, the text of the discussion, and attach files. Supported file types are:

.doc, .docx, .pdf, .png, .jpg, .jpeg, .gif, .bmp, .ppt, .pptx, .pps, .xls, .xlsx, .csv, .tsv, .zip, .rar, .7z

Clicking on Preview allows you to see what the discussion will look like before posting it. Discussions cannot be edited after it has been created. If changes are needed, make them in the form fields above and then click on Preview again. Once you're ready, click Post to create the discussion.

Reply to a Discussion Topic

You have the ability to participate and reply to discussion topics. To do so, open a topic, click on Reply, and type your response in the box that appears. You can also attach documents to your reply.

Tagging others

You may tag an individual to send them a notification in the original Discussion post or topic by simply typing an "@" character and then typing the individual's name. As you type an autocomplete list will appear allowing you to select the individual you were referring to. When your post is made they will receive a notification alerting them to the post.

Discussion reply showing that reads: "How are you doing @Bob Lan" and has a drop down showing "Bob Lankaz" as the available selection.

In a Classroom Discussion you can tag the entire Classroom by typing "@" and then selecting the "Everyone" option.

Flagging discussions

You have the ability to flag any discussion and reply. Flagged discussions will be sent to administrators of your site who will then decide what to do about the post. To do so, click on the flag to the right of their post.

You will then be able to explain why you're flagging the discussion. You can select a reason for flagging the post and and then add text to explain. The options are:

  • Inappropriate
  • Offensive
  • Vulgar
  • Inaccurate
  • Other

When a discussion topic or reply has been flagged it cannot be reflagged. It will be up to the administrator to resolve it. You can see if a discussion is flagged because the flag icon will become red.
