Multi-Factory Authentication (MFA), sometimes called Two-Factor Authentication (TFA), is a recommended security best practice to secure your account. Instead of relying solely on a password to access the system it requires another form of authentication with something you have, such as a mobile device. This can be beneficial if you believe an individual knows your password -- like if you reused passwords and it was exposed in a hack -- so that they cannot access your account without your device.
CollaborNation allows you to enable multiple MFA devices to help you secure your account. This allows you to have a backup device for security reasons in case your primary device becomes lost or unusable.
To enable MFA, click on your profile image > My Profile > Edit Profile.
Under the Account Setting section, select MFA Setup.
From here you will be taken to a page that lists all MFA devices. Click on the Set Up Device button.
You will first be asked to enter your password to confirm your identity. This helps protect your account in case someone gains access to your unlocked device.
After entering your password, you'll complete the following steps to set up your MFA device:
- Enter a nickname: In the MFA Application Nickname field, enter a name to help you identify this device or app in the future, for example, "Personal phone" or "Work computer."
- Scan the QR code or enter the setup code: Use your authentication app to scan the QR code that appears on the screen, or manually enter the provided code.
- Enter the verification code: Your authentication app will generate a 6-digit code. Enter this in the Application Verification Code field to confirm and complete the setup.
Once confirmed you will be brought back to the Configuration screen where you will see the new device, and can remove it at any time. Like setting up a new device, you will be asked to enter your current password to remove the device.
When you log in you will now be asked to enter the MFA verification code from the device.
